Positive: Pros: Location was great, right opposite the castle and a minute's walk to the start of the town and the 'Long Entry' car park. This is where we parked our car and it worked out perfectly. Cottage was very nicely decorated with a lovely terrace out the back door (albeit up some steep steps). As a history buff, I liked the idea of staying in a medieval cottage - however it would have been nice to have had some information about the history of the cottage, given it was 1000 years old, but there was none. Bathroom very good size and shower hot instantly with a good stream of water. Bedrooms all very good size and nicely furnished. Lounge, dining room and kitchen nicely decorated and sofa's in lounge were comfortable. The blue armchair in the dining room was perfect for my 83 year old mum!
Negative: Cons: Kitchen: When we arrived the freezer was completely frosted up, so once the freezer drawer was opened, we couldn't close it. We had to defrost the freezer in order to use it which took an hour :(. There was a leak under the kitchen sink, which the cleaners must have been aware of as they had put a sheet of kitchen towel underneath the 'S' bend. After a day or so, this kitchen towel was saturated so we had to call the cleaners and they came and fixed the leak. This is something that should have been done before our arrival. There is nowhere to store food - all cupboards are taken up with pots and pans etc. Two units on the wall on the left would have been useful for food but we had to store all food on the worktop. No slatted utensil spoon - so had to use sieve each time to drain anything that had been in a saucepan. No tray - one or two trays would have been useful for carrying items up to the terrace. We used a baking tray instead. No tea towel or hand towel rails in the kitchen. Garden: No washing line. There is a large wall (back of bathroom) which would have been ideal for a wall washing line. We had to carry the airer out down the stairs, through the house and up the garden steps to dry clothes. Patio furniture. Although adequate, there are only 4 chairs and it would have been nice to have more comfortable chairs, in addition to the chairs and table, given this is the only sunny spot. Back gate doesn't bolt properly so gate swings back and forth (whilst this wasn't an issue for us, those with small children may need to be aware). Quite a lot of weeds - the wild flowers were nice but there were weeds on the steps which could be a hazard (my 83 year old mother caught her foot on one so I removed this weed). Bathroom: No loo roll holder. Only a small issue so wasn't sure whether to mention or not, but even having a free standing loo roll holder would have been useful.
