Visitors looking for somewhere just that bit different to stay will enjoy the quirkiness of this large property with high beams, a cosy wood burner for those cooler evenings, and the original pulpit still stands within the living area. This detached converted church is just on the edge of Rochester village close to Otterburn. Birdhope Craig Church is in the highly acclaimed Northumberland National Park, a dream for adventure seekers, walkers, cyclists and tourists alike.
The Northumberland National Park is the largest dark sky park in Europe and just perfect for star gazing, and real enthusiasts may want to book into the observatory at Kielder. There is plenty of wildlife to see with ospreys and water voles being reintroduced to the area. If fishing is your thing you can hire a boat and head out on the largest man-made lake in Europe. There’s plenty for the younger ones too with zip wires, sea scooters and three visitor centres. Nearby Otterburn has a friendly store selling all the provisions you may need. Otterburn Mill is a popular stop off for bus trips, with a good range of outdoor wear and walking equipment. The wall took 14 years to build and is the largest structure built by the Romans stretching 70 miles.
