The Space:
// The Property and Surroundings //
Very private lakehouse with lakefront access to Lake Roaming Rock, with a wooded perimeter on both sides of the property and across the lake. The custom-built Craftsman home has elevated features and millwork that you will notice when cozying up with a book or daydreaming. While you are here, take in the sights and sounds of nature while being a short kayak ride away from the bustle of the main lake. Open the windows during May and smell the lilacs blooming or hear the birds chirping and fish jumping. Take a walk around the property and look for a Monarch butterfly fluttering around the perennial gardens. Sit on the Adirondack chairs at the front entrance, and look up at the constellations on a clear evening. Take in the elevated deck that spans the entire width of the home, with a special removable gate that allows younger children to play while you enjoy dinner or a bit of sun. Bring your fishing gear and drop in a line off the dock, where locals often have the best luck – dubbing the offshoot of the lake “Fisherman’s Cove”. Watch for the Bald Eagles and Herons that frequent the lake.
// The Experience //
During your family-friendly stay, you will find all the amenities to host your group, including little ones. River Rock Retreat includes children dishware and utensils, two booster seats, two pack-n-plays, a crib, plenty of toys, children life vests for <30lbs and 30-50lbs, and much more. Take advantage of recreation on the lake with access to two sit-in kayaks. Take a 2-3 hour kayak ride south of Route 6 on Rock Creek and float home, or check out the nearby Bissell Nature Center at The Nature Conservancy for birding, hiking, and a wonderful nature center for children on Saturdays and Sundays, from April-October. Drive nearby to the many wineries and u-pick farms that offer various fruits and vegetables throughout the growing season. **Please note - the owners jetski will be situated on a private dock, but is not available for use.**
Have fun while you are at River Rock Retreat. No matter the time of the year, cozy up by a fire, either at the fire pit outside, in the Great Room with the gas-assist wood-burning fireplace, or by the natural gas fireplace in the lower level. Play one of the many board or card games at the bourbon barrel table in the lower level wet bar area, have a family dance party using the home’s Sonos wireless speakers, or play the piano to end the evening. Watch a movie or a favorite TV re-run on one of Smart TVs in the primary bedroom or downstairs great room. Take advantage of the high-speed internet with whole-home mesh Wi-Fi.
A Hot Springs 7-person saltwater hot tub can be used during your stay. The hot tub is conveniently located adjacent to the side door near the white birch tree, making it accessible yet part of the natural surroundings.
As with many properties on Lake Roaming Rock, a portion of River Rock Retreat property has a steep hill down to the lake - caution is advised.

One of the many highlights of the property – fully stocked with all of the amenities to cook, host, and enjoy your stay – located adjacent to the open concept Great Room. The kitchen has plenty of storage space and a spacious Amish-built pie pantry / cabinet with pullout drawers to keep all your snacks and food supplies organized during your stay. Some specialty items included are: conical burr coffee grinder, kettle and Kalita Wave 185 pour over for coffee lovers, Keurig for a quick cup of coffee, or a regular drip coffee pot with insulated thermos. 8 quart Instant Pot, a powerful blender for smoothies and margaritas, plenty of bakeware such as cookie sheets, pie pans, and casserole dishes, mixing bowls and silicone mats, full non-stick ceramic cookware, and a large steamer pot for corn-on-the-cob or steamed artichokes. The dining room has a six-person dining table, and the kitchen has three elevated bar stools along with a kitchen nook with a small table and two chairs, perfect for a quiet breakfast or for young children to eat at. The property also has a premium natural gas grill.
// Sleeping Accommodations //
River Rock Retreat sleeps 8 comfortably with 4 bedrooms plus a bonus room. You will find the bedrooms spacious and accommodating for personal space and belongings.
First Floor:
- Primary Bedroom: King memory foam bed with full bathroom / shower en-suite. Sleep-in with Pottery Barn blackout curtains and quilted linens. Adjacent to the primary bathroom is also a walk-in closet with crib. The room has a window and ventilation but can be made very dark and quiet quickly, making it suitable as a nursery for the littlest member of your family.
- Bedroom 2: Queen pillow-top bed with dedicated workstation and monitor
- Full bath on first floor with shower / tub to wash your little ones
Fully-Finished Walk-Out Lower Level with 9-Foot Ceilings:
- Bedroom 3: King bed with memory foam mattress, desk, and full bathroom / shower en-suite. This very large bedroom will comfortably accommodate pack-n-plays provided, as well as toddler blow-up beds that families often bring for little ones.
- Bedroom 4: Queen bed
- Full bath with shower, next to Bedroom 4
- Bonus Room adjacent to Great Room: Pull-out loveseat sofa bed
Guest Access:
Guests will have full access to the property, rooms, and dock, apart from the owner’s garage, and the locked utility rooms, owner’s closet, and pantry. The driveway can accommodate approximately five vehicles.
Please note that while River Rock Retreat is part of Rome Rock Association Homeowner's Association, guests will not have access to Rome Rock facilities such as the pool, beach, tennis courts and other areas where an HOA ID card is required. Guests will be permitted to access the lake via the dock, but will not have access to any boat launch facilities or ability to launch a motorized watercraft on Lake Roaming Rock.
Lake depth directly off the dock is 3-5ft, and the lake has a mud bottom. As such, swimming directly off of the dock is possible, but not suggested.
The Neighborhood:
As you drive in, you will enjoy the rolling hills, vineyards, and acres of corn of the Grand River Valley before coming across lake life. Located on the secluded Fisherman's Cove of Lake Roaming Rock (Ohio's largest private lake), you will enjoy the amazing views off the covered porch. Take a kayak ride on Rock Creek and float back home. Enjoy lake life!

Linens and beach towels are also included with your stay. River Rock Retreat includes a washer and dryer, and laundry soap will be available for convenience.
Rental Agreement
All rental guests must sign a standard rental agreement. This will be emailed to you upon making the reservation and must be signed prior to arrival. You will not be given a door code or granted access to the property without signing the Rental Agreement.
Interaction with Guests:
While we generally won't be available in person, we are only a short call or text away. We also have local, trusted staff nearby for maintenance and other concerns.
