Welcome to the "Sea Salt Villa"! We know you will fall in love with Daufuskie Island and will never want to leave. You will experience the most fabulous vacation in your own private paradise nestled right next to a quiet stretch of pristine and beautiful beach. Our cozy Villa is located in the Melrose area among large oak trees with gorgeous hanging Spanish moss. We love living in such a peaceful, shady area so close to the beach. What is better than sitting in a rocking chair or chaise lounge on the large shaded porch after a sunny day at the beach enjoying the sounds of the birds and beautiful scenery with a cold drink in your hand? Take a golf cart ride at dusk and you will encounter deer playing in the grassy golf course and wooded areas. Stroll the beach at low tide and you can walk for what seems like a mile into the Atlantic Ocean. From the beach you can see the southern tip of Hilton Head Island to the left and Tybee Island to the right.
This second-floor west view villa features an open floor plan with bamboo wood flooring in the living area, kitchen and dining room. The kitchen is equipped with all stainless appliances and an eat-in breakfast bar. It is also very well stocked with cookware and tools so you can enjoy home-cooked meals any time you want. Offers the choice of drip coffee or Keurig. The living room features sitting areas, a flat screen TV, comfortable convertible sofa/bed and access to your private screened porch overlooking the golf course and wilderness. The lengthy screened porch is the perfect place to enjoy your morning coffee or early evening cocktail while taking in the natural beauty and sounds of the Island and the sunset. The master bedroom is spacious with king bed, sitting area, refrigerator, microwave, TV and separate access to the porch. It also has a large master bathroom equipped with separate sinks, large shower and a spa tub for the upmost relaxation. The guest bedroom has two queen beds, separate access to the screened porch, TV, microwave, and a connected spacious bathroom with dual sinks and a tub/shower. We also provide two bikes which come with the rental.
Remember there is "NO BRIDGE" to Daufuskie Island (and we like it that way). Your adventure would start with choice of private water taxi or public ferry transport to the Island from Bluffton, SC. Private transportation by water taxi can be booked with May River Excursions at www.mayriverexcursions.com ). This is a private boat with a 30-minute ride, $10 overnight parking and unlimited luggage. Cost is $50 per person (3-person minimum), round trip. You can also book with the public ferry, Daufuskie Ferry Company, which is a 45-minute ride. Cost is $65 per person, round trip. There is a $10 fee for daily parking and a transport fee of $10 or $20 for your luggage and groceries (depending on how much you bring). Both embark out of Bluffton, SC. We will meet you on the island when you arrive at the dock, help load your luggage and groceries, and take you to your villa. Transportation on the island back to the ferry dock at the end of your stay is also provided. You will need to rent a golf cart once on the island (we will provide information for rentals). The island is small enough to easily get around with either type of transportation, but we recommend golf cart rental to move around the island quicker (plus it is more economical and carries your goodies you will collect in your island adventure). Groceries are very limited on the Island, although we are happy to announce that we now have a small grocery store (D’Fuskie’s Store & Eatery, with many food items available. It is recommended you plan your meals and bring your main groceries on the ferry or call Bayard to place your grocery needs. Pizza & Cold/Hot sandwiches are also available, Thursday-Tuesday 11am-8pm.
There are many things to do on the island. Visit the Daufuskie Community Farm (open daily 11-4pm) where everyone is encouraged to help feed the animals. Your round of golf can be played (for a separate fee) at the private community of Haig Point, located on the north end of the island. Horseback riding rentals are available through Haig Point and Marsh Tacky Equestrian for beach and trail rides. If you want to taste the unique flavors of rum, bourbon or vodka distilled right here on the island, visit the Daufuskie Island Rum Company and take some home or back to your villa to enjoy. You can visit the Lighthouse which is home to the Silver Dew Winery.
The restaurants on the island are unique & colorful! Daufuskie Crab Company (located right on the water near the ferry dock) serves lunch & dinner 11am-8pm with a Caribbean atmosphere! They host live bands in the peak season (May through September) on Saturdays and Sundays. School Grounds Coffee Shop is the perfect place to start your day or boost your afternoon - open daily 9pm-4pm.
