Oh the view - rolling hills connecting to a wildlife swamp in the foreground, framed by Beartown State Forest and Monument Mountain with Mt Everett in the distance. Rain or shine – the view does not get old. The morning fog that leaves droplets of water on spider webs which would otherwise remain undetected.
Or the spring water out the back door. Or the cows and horses that dot the property. Or the boulders that hold an ancient energy.
Welcome to Boulderwood. A home built 117 years ago out of native fieldstone and timber, sited perfectly southwest to take in the sunshine but not be blinded by the sunsets.
Updated and restored in 2001 with a gourmand’s kitchen that allows the cook to take in the view while preparing a feast. Or the cypress paneled living room providing a message we all need to hear: “And this Our Life, Exempt from Public Haunt, Finds Tongues in Trees, Books in the Running Brooks, Sermons in Stones, GOOD in EVERYTHING.” And indeed, there is good in everything! Or the library filled with books, and yes, a TV, if you must. Or the dining room with its massive table.
It’s home from the moment you step foot in the front door where the view pulls you toward it and yet the house’s details begin to touch you one by one – the unusual fountain in the front hall, the leaded glass windows, and window seats in the living room and kitchen. Imagine perching yourself on one – reading a book, listening to music or napping.
The bedrooms are spacious. All southwest facing. The Master has an en suite bathroom and sleeping porch. Each bedroom has its own character and you will certainly find one that pleases you, your family members or your guests. We have heard people say they sleep like a rock here. We call it the Boulderwood sleep coma…

Boulderwood is located on beautiful Ice Glen Road in Stockbridge midway between Great Barrington and Lenox and is close to all of the main attractions in the Berkshires. The property also abuts Laurel Hill land (with Ice Glen and Laura's Tower) and 12,000 acre Beartown State Forest.
The Main Floor: Boulderwood has been updated and restored in a way that maintains it’s connection to the past but also includes all the modern luxuries we love today. The open and well-appointed kitchen has Viking appliances and is set up in a way that the cook can prepare a fantastic meal all the while enjoying in the breathtaking views. The large custom-made kitchen table which is made out of ancient timber that came out of the house when doing the renovation seats up to 12 people comfortably. We've hosted epic dinner parties around this table and always give our guests the view!
The cypress-paneled living room with has three window seats (the windows are gorgeous leaded glass), a huge stone fireplace, and piano (for musicians only) is a wonderful place for family and friends to gather. Adjacent to the living room you will find the billiards room complete with a pool table and a fireplace. Also, on the main floor you will find the library filled with books, a cable TV, and a fireplace, as well as a ½ bath.
Upstairs: All of the spacious bedrooms are located upstairs on the 2nd floor. The large master bedroom with queen size bed has an en suite bathroom with double sinks and a marble shower. One guest bedroom has a queen size bed. Two guest bedrooms have 2 twin beds. Another guest bedroom has a full size bed with a fold out single sofa bed, while another guest bedroom has a daybed that comfortably sleeps 1 (or 2 small children). Each guest bedroom has it’s own character and you will certainly find one that pleases you. There are 2 shared full bathrooms upstairs one with a shower and the other with a claw-foot tub.
The Grounds: Boulderwood is aptly-named. Glacial errata are scattered across the sloping hillside and the woods/forest frame the rear and sides of the property. The property is private but not secluded. Boulderwood is accessed up a ½ mile driveway that curves through the property. Once at the house, guests can take in the view and the 75 acres. Step outside the back door and enjoy private hiking trails or take a short walk down the road to explore the unique and captivating Ice Glen Trail System and Laura’s Tower. Either way, you are sure to unwind on these pristine grounds.
