Positive: Very characteristic and traditional stone building on 3 floors in a very quiet and pleasant location a short walk from beach. We enjoyed the large grassy garden and orchard and open outlook to fields beyond. The house was comfortable and spacious for our family and was mainly well-equipped. Our son enjoyed using the attic floor for games and reading. The living room and kitchen area was pleasant and comfortable and opened out on to a raised decking veranda overlooking the garden. It is a super location for accessing the local beaches and WW2 points of interest all along the coast.
Negative: The ground-floor rooms felt and smelled damp (which improved during our stay by leaving windows / doors open) The front door lock felt insecure with just a single turn on the key to lock, we felt some additional lock or bolt was required for safety. The kitchen was well resourced but the coffee maker did not work properly and only steak knives were provided for table use. The TV set is very small! The house was mainly clean but on closer inspection we felt it did not represent the E.60 cleaning fee payable at the end of our stay. Outside there was a gravelled area covered with weeds with a very rusty and dilapidated looking metal patio chair and table set, also a small, dirty and rusty barbecue which would not be appealing for anyone to use. This space could have been made much more appealing. Finally, the additional costs for bed linen and towels seem a bit steep and unecessary, on top of the rental fee. Most places will include these as standard, unless things work differently in French holiday homes?
