La Casa del Professore and SaltSugarFire Hospitality welcome folks of every color, creed, and walk of life and expect ALL of our guests to conduct themselves with kindness, consideration, and respect, regardless of your personal beliefs. We will not tolerate discrimination, hate speech, or violence.
This beautiful example of Eckington architecture was originally built in 1905 and completely renovated in 2010 as part of DC's early wave of restoration. It is Francesco's home and, while it has been transformed for guest use, it's furnishings and contents are his and bare the signs of being lived in and loved for many years. This is a home, not just a house.

• I've negotiated a reduced cleaning fee to ensure the property is clean for your stay and that rate is based on the assumption that guests tidy up behind themselves and complete a couple of simple checkout tasks (see House Manual). They offer a concierge level housekeeping service for the property so that, if they'd like, guests can gather their personal belongings, lock up the house, and leave without any additional checkout steps. This service is an additional flat fee of $50. Mention your interest in your booking message.

GUEST ACCESS
Guests have access to the entire 3-story home and back yard. Guests may not access the backyard shed or the attic crawl space.
THINGS TO NOTE
• We do not offer early checkin or luggage storage on site but our next door neighbors offer luggage storage for a fee. Inquire with host.
• Beginning the summer of 2022, we will no longer provide paper towels in an effort to reduce waste (the hospitality industry is a significant contributor to our country is waste problem and DC, in particular, DC has a troublesome waste management system that must outsource all of its waste disposal to other cities and states). We provide washable kitchen towels. Guests are welcomed to supply or purchase their own, however, and may find partial rolls from previous guests in the apartment.
• For guests with allergies or sensitivities:
the owner has lived full time in the main and second floors with 2 very fluffy cats for over a decade. While we make every effort to deep clean and remove the residual pet hair, we cannot guarantee the house for cat allergy sufferers.
some pillows and duvets are down-filled and we use fragranced cleaners and air fresheners. We have down-alternative bedding and can accommodate fragrance sensitivities.

• This nearly 200-year old, 2-story rowhome does not have zoned heating/cooling and may experience unbalanced temperatures during the hottest and coldest months. We provide a radiant space heater for the basement.
PARKING & TRANSPORTATION
Parking in the neighborhood is restricted for residential parking permits. We offer one free visitor parking permit for one vehicle to park on the street. Street parking is first come, first served and other parking restrictions still apply (details in House Manual after booking). You'll need to register for a ParkDC account and print your pass ahead of checkin.
For details on utilizing Metro Bus/Rail systems, visit the WMATA website. Loaner SmarTrip cards are provided but you can now download the SmarTrip app on your Android or iPhone, create an account, and purchase ride passes that can be used on all Metro systems. Skip the old, plastic cards and use your phone!
HOUSE RULES
• Guests must notify us if they feel ill or are diagnosed/test positive for the coronavirus or Monkeypox at any point leading up to checkin and for 2 weeks after checkout so that we can take the appropriate steps to protect our cleaning staff and future guests.
• No parties, events, "gatherings". If your visit is to celebrate a birthday or special occasion, please let us know in your message, even if you do not plan to host it at the house.
• Guests are not permitted have unauthorized visitors (anyone not included on your original reservation or otherwise approved in advance by your hosts) on premise.
• Number of guests listed in reservation must be updated and accurate prior to checkin.
• We reserve the right to refuse, decline, or cancel bookings by guests who are local to the DMV, including those from guests who otherwise meet our booking requirements.
• No pets. Because this is the owner's primary residence, we are not able to accommodate ESAs or assistance animals (the owner has two cats who will literally destroy the house if they smell another animal in their space)
• Third-party bookings are not permitted. The owner of the primary guest account booking the stay MUST be staying at the property.
• Guests must be at at least 25 years of age (children with their 25+ parents are welcomed)
• In accordance with the DC noise ordinance, noise levels must be kept under 55 decibels (the level of a normal conversation) between the hours of 10pm and 7am seven days a week. If we have to respond to a noise complaint by a neighbor or by law enforcement, you may be fined and your group removed from the premises.
• Guests may not alter, tamper with, or manually override the timer for the garden lights to extend their operation beyond the pre-set shut off time (10pm weekdays, 11pm weekends).
• Vaping and smoking tobacco or marijuana are NOT permitted inside the house. Guests who violate this policy will be fined (see House Rules). Guests may smoke in the back yard but must ash and dispose of their fully extinguished smoking waste in the provided ashtrays (NEVER on the ground, in the garden beds, or flicked over the fence) and empty the ashtrays in the outdoor bins out front at the end of their stay. In the District of Columbia, if you are over 21 years of age, you are legally allowed to smoke on private property, carry up to 2oz of cannabis on your person, and gift or donate (buying and selling is still illegal, as is smoking in public). That being said, please be considerate of the neighbors.
• Be sure to clean up after yourself and be respectful of our neighbors. The cleaners charge a reduced rate turnover fee to ensure the property is clean for your checkin and is based on the assumption that guests will be respectful of the space and upkeep during their stay. A traditional housekeeper's fee for this size space, including laundry and dishes, would be upwards of $350. Any extra charges incurred from the cleaning staff will be deducted from your security deposit.
• No confetti or glitter.
• Beer pong is not permitted.
• Do not sleep on the main floor living room sofa; it is not an appropriate sleeping arrangement and using it as a bed causes undue wear and tear.
• Do not send mail or packages to yourself at the Airbnb. Porch pirate package theft is a significant issue in DC and we cannot guarantee receipt.
• If you leave an item at the house upon your departure, we are happy to mail it back to you for the cost of shipping plus an additional $10 fee.
• Disclosure: we have exterior front and rear facing Nest motion and noise sensing cameras with recording capabilities.
