Tuck yourself in at Little Blue! This gorgeous 400 square foot cottage is nestled into the trees, just a short walk down the trail from Lake Superior. Clean lines plus an airy open floorplan make for a space that feels cozy and luxurious at the same time. Little Blue has everything you need (and nothing you don't) for a relaxing getaway to the South Shore: a fully outfitted kitchen, full bed, and views of the woods through every window--plus a gorgeous outdoor living space in a peaceful spot.
Your host runs Bark Point Ventures, a vacation rental management & concierge company that specializes in properties on Lake Superior's South Shore. She lives nearby and is available 24/7 to assist her guests. Our passion is ensuring guests experience the magic of what we feel is one of the most amazing places in the world.
The South Shore is truly a place to get away from it all, but not so far from modern conveniences that getting food and gas feels like a chore. The guest book contains tips on all the incredible outdoor activities around here, as well as local arts, plus places to get groceries, dine out, grab a drink, etc. This is truly a year-round destination, whether you enjoy outdoor adventure, local cuisine, art, or simply the company of friends & family in one of the most beautiful locations in the northern U.S.
The home is just a few minutes from the center of Cornucopia, which has a delightful general store/market, awesome coffee shop, bar/restaurant, and marina. Bayfield is about 25 minutes away, as is Washburn (where you’ll find the largest grocery store in the area). Ashland is about 35 minutes away, with a natural foods co-op, Wal-Mart, and a wider range of shops). Superior & Duluth are an hour and a bit away.
Little Blue has just what you need for a relaxing getaway, all in a tiny package that never feels cramped or crowded. You'll find yourself surrounded by trees, on a private road without a lot of traffic. It's a short walk, less than half a mile down a nature trail, to Cornucopia beach, one of the prettiest sand beaches on Lake Superior.
Step inside the front door of this cozy cottage and you'll find the common area. We love how bright and airy this space feels, thanks to the clean, white walls and natural wood details--and of course all the windows looking out into the woods! There's a sofa and TV in one corner, and on the other side of the room you'll find the kitchen. It's small but it's fully equipped, with a stovetop, oven, and microwave, plus a small refrigerator and ice maker, and a few other gadgets in the cupboards. And of course there's a coffeemaker! There's bar seating for three, and the bar table doubles as extra kitchen prep space.
Through the glass doors you'll find a gorgeous outdoor living area: a patio with outdoor seating, and a beautiful pergola to define the space with a bit of shade and shelter.
The bedroom is bathed in soft natural light, with more views out to the treetops. You'll find a comfy full bed with cute little nightstands built into the wall, ready to hold your book after you've drifted off to sleep. There's also a corner wardrobe for a storage.
On the other side of the entryway, behind the kitchen wall, is the bright and cheery bathroom, which has a vanity plus a step-in corner shower.
Inside and out, Little Blue is all about calm and relaxation, from the peaceful setting in the trees to the simple, modern lines in the living space.
Due to the lack of public transportation and the distance between towns/amenities, a car is pretty much essential. But, on the plus side, traffic is not a concept we have up here!
