Experience a bygone era in this restored Schoolhouse circa 1866 with many original details such as oversized glass-paned windows, wood plank floors, chalkboards, tin ceiling, and more. Modern amenities such as fireplace, private hot tub, fire pit, gas BBQ, and access to our pool (June-Sept), pond, and tennis court.
Inside the schoolhouse: an open loft-like schoolroom which houses two beds (queen and full), a living area, a music nook with a guitar and ukulele, a writing table with a typewriter, and a fireplace (pellet stove) to cozy up to. There is a game room and reading library furnished with the schoolroom's original schoolbooks, vintage curiosities and enough board games and puzzles to get you through a few rainy days. The original attached washroom was lovingly converted into a modern kitchen with dining area, bathroom, laundry room and a cozy reading loft as well.
Outside: off the kitchen you will have access to your private deck with exclusive use to the hot tub (year-round), gas BBQ (directly connected to the house propane), fire pit, dining table for four, and parking area. This is all private (not shared) and just for your use!
Further down the private driveway, you’ll have access (and shared with us) to our pool, tennis courts (tennis rackets and tennis balls provided), and private waterfront access with dock, floating swim dock, kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddle boards.
The schoolhouse is well appointed with wi-fi, mini-split AC and heat in both the schoolroom and kitchen (along with heated brick floors in the kitchen and bathroom), 65” smart TV, Sonos speakers, stereo system, and record player, washer/dryer, guitar and ukulele, board games, yard games, children's toys, and an equipped kitchen including an espresso maker. The kitchen is small but will have everything you need to cook and BBQ during your stay. Microwave, Vitamix blender, toaster oven, Instapot and an espresso machine are just some of the mini appliances equipped in the kitchen.
The home is well suited for a couple or a family with children. Please bring your kids! Infant-friendly and toddler-friendly.
There is one queen bed and one full bed in the schoolroom, and an additional fold-out bed can be brought in upon request. In addition, we have a pack-n-play with changing station. If requested, we will set it up in advance for you.
Sheets, bath towels and pond/pool towels are provided.
Tennis rackets and tennis balls are provided, along with other yard games, toys, and such for guests of all ages.
Additional Details to Note:
We are located on the private 80-acre Shapleigh Pond in Southern Maine, an hour from Portland and two hours from Boston.
This home has a backup generator for power outages.
The hot tub model is called Softub and is open year-round. It is a vinyl tub insulated with NASA-engineered foam creating not only a comfortable experience but energy-efficient heat insulation. We are big fans of this hot tub!
We are pet-friendly and we have a beagle (Luna) on the premises. She will likely require some belly rubs upon meeting you.
