Mamis Mansion is located in the picturesque village of Chromonastiri and is within walking distance from many taverna’s options and traditional cafes. It has been classified as a preserved and traditional heritage site of great cultural value and it’s considered as one of the most important historic settlements of Rethymno. Chromonastiri means 'Colour Monastery' after the Byzantine church dating from the 11th century.
Mamis Mansion is a beautifully restored traditional home with all the modern amenities that a holiday home can offer, combined with the local element and atmosphere of the village! It has been completely renovated with respect to the unique architecture and style of the old building and has become the ideal house for rest and relaxation that enchants visitors any time of the year!
Its size makes it ideal for families or couples who want to experience the true Cretan style of life in a picturesque location, characteristic of the cretan land! Also, all village facilities, such as taverns and traditional cafes are within walking distance from the house!
Layout
Ground Floor
At the exterior of the house, before entering, there is a stone-paved veranda full of flowers along with a grapevine with clusters of grapes hanging from it. Feel free to grab one and taste it! There is also a nice shaded sitting area where you can sit and relax while drinking your coffee and enjoying an amazing sea view!
The impressive wood and stone, two storey mansion comprises a spacious living room, along with a swinging chair, which welcomes you when entering.
Furthermore, a fully equipped kitchen where you can cook your own meals and a dining area where you can enjoy your dinner on a very nice wooden table right under an old clock. This area leads to a beautiful hallway where there is an old stone built oven where you can also sit if you wish, ideal for relaxation and reading moments. Finally there is a spacious bedroom with a double bed, with romantic curtain decoration and a bathroom with a shower where you can enjoy a nice bath before going to bed!
First Floor
The staircase, full of old pictures reminding of older and different times in Crete, leads to the first floor. There guests can find one more bedroom and a hall with an extra bed that could accommodate one more guest. There is also one more family bathroom with a shower available on this level.
To make things better, on the first floor there is a solarium terrace, featuring a shaded area with a great spa whirlpool tub for four people where you can relax while enjoying a magnificent view to the countryside and the surrounding area. Respecting the environment and trying to use alternative energy sources, our spa whirlpool tub is connected with solar panels and fills up with hot water from the boiler! For that reason, in days with not enough sunshine (mainly in April and May) it may not be possible to operate. But don’t worry…in Crete there is sunshine most of the time! You will also find two sun beds and a hammock where you can take your evening nap and appreciate the peacefulness that Mamis Mansion offers! Completing this beautiful picture is a small sitting area where you can drink your coffee and find pleasure in just sitting there and gazing upon a lovely sunset!
