Summary: For the first time in many years of VRBO stays, we actually left the property and chose not to stay. We made this decision for three primary reasons: 1) We had difficulty actually gaining access to the house as the door code we were provided did not work and the property manager had to force the door lock remotely. 2) The property was not quite as advertised, we travelled with our dog and had no access to the back of the house. We were told the deck was being renovated and was closed off for safety reasons, which I appreciate but we should have been informed of that ahead of time. When the owner saw the dog on the doorbell camera, she had the property manager contact us to tell us pets were not allowed. The listing clearly stated pet friendly and listed a pet fee. We included the pet in the request to book the property which the property manager then approved. 3) The communication between the owner, the property management company and us as the paying guests was unacceptable. We received multiple "bot" messages that were incomplete (i.e. not including the door code after referencing the door code in the message) and the assertion that pets were not allowed after we had already checked in. Also, the living areas were much smaller than we expected the whole house felt as if it were "showroom ready". We were concerned about messing things up. Ultimately, we chose to leave the property exactly as we found it and make other arrangements for our stay in the area. Highly recommend the owner and property managers get on the same page and the property management make sure their systems are working as expected. It was a beautiful house in a very quiet and secluded neighborhood and would have been ideal for our stay in many ways. This was unfortunate and unusual misstep for VRBO.
