Enjoy Volcano's cool climate, beautiful forests, and stunningly scenic hiking from this modern 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom, single-story home. It's a new house built in 2019 to showcase the surrounding native ohia forest. The house is fully equipped with all new furniture, fast wifi, and modern appliances - everything you need for a comfortable vacation. It features a private garden and is just 7 minutes from Volcanoes National Park.
The space
Location
Just 7 minutes driving from the National Park Entrance, and 6 minutes driving from Volcano Village with its boutique restaurants, and on Sundays, a quaint farmer’s market with local food, produce, and crafts.
Living Room
The living room features a large L shaped couch, stereo system, coffee table, and Roku TV. You can use the TV to watch your favorite movies and shows from most streaming services, including Netflix, HBO, YouTube, and more. The stereo is connected to the TV for sound. The large couch is a great place to relax, take a nap or for an extra guest to sleep.
Kitchen
If you like to cook as much as I do, you’ll love the spacious kitchen which is the centerpiece of the house by design with its expansive quartz countertops and modern appliances - gas stove and oven, full size fridge and freezer, microwave, toaster, blender, rice cooker, pots, pans, and kettle.
Lounge
The kitchen opens to the lounge; a cozy nook featuring a gas see-through fireplace, futon, and desk, where, especially on rainy days, I recommend curling up with a good book and a blanket. The desk by the fireplace is a great place to write postcards, add an entry to your journal, or use the high-speed internet to take care of some remote work. The fireplace will effectively warm up the entire house. To set a relaxing tone, colorful accent lighting can be turned on across the lounge and the kitchen.
Main Bedroom
The see-through fireplace can also be enjoyed from the master bedroom, where a comfortable Queen bed with plenty of pillows awaits. For privacy, curtains can be closed across the fireplace, but be sure to leave those open while the fireplace is on. The main bedroom has a full ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower, and shelves with spare linens and towels.
Outdoor Shower
The main bedroom also has a private sliding glass door to the yard where there is a luxurious outdoor rain shower. It’s a real treat to stand outside in the shower looking up at the tall ohia trees, or on a clear night, the stars. The shower walls were built from lava rocks collected on the property.
Guest Bedroom
The guest bedroom is simple with a Queen bed, night stand, and closet. Late sleepers will appreciate the blackout curtains which turn the room into a cave.
Yoga Room
Adjacent to the living room is the Yoga Room, which is left mostly empty for you to roll out a yoga mat, or to roll out a queen-size futon mattress (there is one on site) if you need additional sleeping accommodations. A folding room divider can be extended between the living room to provide more privacy if desired.
The Porch
A covered patio with an extendable table for enjoying coffee/tea and breakfast in the morning while listening to the birds in the ohia trees, or to host an afternoon bbq with the charcoal grill. In the mornings you’re likely to hear the songs of the native birds like Hawaii Amakihi, and if you’re lucky, the endangered Hawaiian Honeycreeper. You may also get a visit from the pair of Kalij pheasants that occasionally patrol the yard for bugs.
Off-Grid Utilities
The household tap water is entirely fresh rainwater collected on site, triple filtered with micron and UV filters to ensure its safe to drink and delicious. The water from the fridge dispenser is filtered a 4th time and is more refreshingly pure than any other tap water or bottled water you can get on the island.
The household electricity is also entirely generated on site from rooftop solar panels and stored in batteries which power the house through the night. When you turn on a water faucet or light switch, you can have the satisfaction of knowing that all of it originated right there at the house.
