Home with stunning views perfectly situated between Roxbury and Stamford! Drink your morning coffee at the bar on the deck overlooking the mountains, curl up with a good book in the reading nook, or explore the farms, mountains, and countryside of the beautiful Western Catskills.
Cabin is situated on five beautiful acres at the end of a private drive. Beautiful sunrises over the mountains, with wide-open stargazing after dark.
The space
Cabin is 15 minutes or less from: Mine Kill Falls, Mt. Utsayantha Fire Tower, Pratt Rock, The Catskill Scenic Trail, and the Hobart Book Village. Skiing at Plattekill is just 25 minutes away and Windham/Hunter are just 30 minutes.
Other attractions include farm tours, vintage shops, the highest and fastest zipline tour in North America, mountain biking—including at Elm Ridge Wild Forest, two nearby golf courses, and the numerous charming villages of the scenic Catskills.

The trundle bed is very cozy under the stairs in the reading nook. We love it! It is open to the living room, however, which means: the two twin beds are in the same room as the TV. (Late-night TV watching may conflict with using the trundle to sleep. When the sun rises, the wall of windows and four skylights will fill the room with light. Definitely preferred for early risers.)
This is the GREAT outdoors! Bugs (sometimes ugly!), woodchucks, foxes, turkeys, frogs, and deer sometimes graze the property. You may even encounter a bear. You should be comfortable with nature. Though we have screens on the doors and windows, some bugs may make it inside. (Please keep the screens closed!)
Our driveway is long, gravel, and gradually uphill. If you attempt to brave the driveway in winter snow in the wrong car, you will not make it. Please do not book without 4WD/AWD, snow tires, and a car with the clearance beneath to make it over a decent snowfall.
We have great cell service and WiFi at the house! Keep in mind that reception is spotty in the region, but good at the house.
Our home uses well water. As is often the case with well water, after a heavy rain the water can run high in iron. It is well within healthy limits—but if you have any sensitivities, please keep this in mind.
Our kitchen does not have a microwave, please plan accordingly.
March and April are mud season. Bring mud boots for the outdoors and be prepared to be greeted by a slightly muddy driveway.

THE SCENE
Hopping Fox Chalet is situated on the side of a mountain in the Western Catskills. Relax on the deck and watch clouds glide past the mountains across the valley—mountains rising 2200’ above the valley floor. Stay in and play games, watch a movie, relax on the deck, sit by the fire inside or out, enjoy a glass of something delicious at the deck bar, or get some work done at the desk in the loft, the workspace in one of the loft bedrooms, or at the dining table or deck bar.
If you’d prefer, get outside and hike, swim, bike, ski, golf, tour farms, browse vintage/thrift shops, boat, peruse the bookshops of the book village in Hobart, or visit the highest, fastest, and longest zipline tour in North America—all within 30 minutes of the house!

RULES
- No smoking.
- No parties or events.
- Well-behaved, house-broken dogs are welcome with prior approval and an additional pet fee.
- Two dog maximum.
- We love dogs. We have two. They love to watch over the five acres. Our cleaners don’t love their fur all over the furniture, however, and the guests that follow you might not either. Therefore, please keep dogs off the furniture. One medium-size dog bed is provided. Please bring another if needed. :)
- Please kennel your dog(s) if you leave them in the house alone. We provide one medium-size kennel. Please bring another if needed.
- With animals (sometimes large) nearby, please keep your dogs close in the evenings.
- In winter: your car must have 4WD, AWD, snow tires. The home has a long gravel driveway on an incline.
- Doors/windows without screens must be kept closed (front door and back door off the utility room)
- Visitors to be confirmed w/host. Max total capacity is 10 people.
- 4 cars max unless prior approval.
- Minimum booking age is 25. (Photo ID may be required).
- Check in time during winter months is between 3pm and 8pm.
- Do not leave food and garbage outside. It will attract bears, racoons, possums, bugs, etc.
- Please remove your shoes when entering the house, except in the designated bins. The earth is red around here, and it leaves a mark.
