Positive: Stunning view. Ironically the one thing, the managers of the property had little to do with. Some of the furnishings were nice. Hot water always available. Lovely four poster bed in the main bedroom. Cosy rooms with some character that gave the property a certain charm. Oven worked. Good parking, though the drive up is marked by pot holes, some of which have been filled in. Easy to access.
Negative: Cleanliness could have been better. Kitchen utensils whilst acceptable lacked certain useful things. It felt like a charming place that just needed a bit more love in some of the furnishings to make it a really ideal cottage to stay. The main gripe is with Pass the Keys management of the property. Booking it as a late replacement after another property rental fell through, I made the error not to read all the details. Big mistake. Pass the Keys who manage the property insist on a verification process, where you need to upload a passport or driver license and take a photo of yourself. Something I have never had to do for any other property ever. As part of this process, they demand to take £500 to cover for a loss or damages. This is much higher than any other property I have stayed at, and although this money is returned at the end of the stay, some 14 days after they claim, they charge a £10 transaction fee. Now transactions fees in this instance are illegal. When I challenged them on this, they quickly revised it to a service fee, but also said, they never take the £500, just made a holding for it. So why does this process need a £10 fee. Perhaps, because the data verification and damage waiver is being handled by yet another company and Pass the Keys are passing some of the costs onto us the customer, which I feel they should not. My concerns about this whole thing, and how safe my £500 was, especially as there are no independent checks done of the property before and after to ensure no false claims for damages were made; I opted for the £40 damage waiver that protects you from up to £500 of damages. I am not happy with this part of the service, and I will ensure I avoid any further properties owned by Pass the Key in future. Most of my messages to them just led to an automated response, with the occasional personal message, each time done by a different person.
Summary: A lovely property that could do with a bit more love from an owner who cared.
