Wedding Cake House built in 1825, is a treasured landmark of Kennebunk. The romantic
architecture and maritime history of this private estate makes it an enchanted destination, and we look forward to sharing it with love.
IMPORTANT: this listing is for a standard vacation rental which includes sleeping a maximum of 10
people and the ability to host a party/celebration for 20 people maximum. Minimum age for all guests staying at the property is 12 years old. Gatherings with over 20 people are allowed at a different rate. Please inquire within. Property manager lives on site. 10 Maximum parking spots.
The Wedding Cake House is a true piece of art. This property comfortably sleeps 10 people and
comes with dining set up for 20. There are so many features of the property to make your vacation
special, including the main house, carriage house ballroom, barn lounge, and terrace. The back deck has ample lounging space overlooking the sprawling backyard. In the backyard you will find a fire pit overlooking the prestigious Kennebunk River.
Inside the property! Every room of the main house is layered with history, art, and heirlooms from its
past to the present. The original architectural elements have been preserved with the addition of
current comforts.
MAIN HOUSE: 1st floor The formal parlor: Formal sitting room with an antique Chickering piano. The library: This cozy space has antique books, TV, chess set, and a bar. The dining room: Featuring an antique table with 8 seats with a pull-out extension. The kitchen: Breakfast nook, coffee bar with custom mugs, 5 burner Bertazzoni stove, dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, flatware, designer napkins, glassware for 20, and so much more! Bathroom #1:Half bath Bathroom #2: Laundry room w/ half bath.
2nd floor Bedroom #1: The Bridal Room: King bed with full bathroom en-suite. Decorated with many timeless antiques to offer the right amount of comfort. Bedroom #2: The Captains Room: California King bed with full bathroom en-suite. Bedroom #3: The Tack Room: Full Size bed. #4: The Garden Room: 2 Twin beds. Bathroom #3: The Rose Bathroom: This bathroom is located by the tack room and the garden room. Featuring a Clawfoot tub, large gold mirror and many antique compliments.
CARRIAGE HOUSE 2nd floor Bedroom #5: The Cavalier Room: Queen bed. Located off kitchen
over Carriage house. The bedroom has a full bath en-suite with the utmost privacy.
CARRIAGE HOUSE AND BARN 1st floor: The original carriage house opens out to the large terrace
with 4 pairs of doors that connect to the barn and are highlighted with the grand piano. This ballroom space has easy access to the kitchen, 2 half bathrooms, and is decorated with antiques, artwork, a bar, and sound system. This combination creates a unique space for entertaining. This elaborate structure has inspired many romantic tales such as a young bride and groom separated on their wedding night because the groom had to board his ship to catch the tide. The couple was not able to have their wedding reception and wedding cake. The young sailor spent his long, lonely nights at sea carving all the beautiful woodwork and brought it back home and presented his bride with “icing for her cake”. It got its name from a local businessman perpetuating the romance of the Kennebunk area and labeled it “The Wedding Cake House” for a postcard collection of beautiful homes along Summer Street.
