Positive: The house itself is generously sized with a well equipped kitchen, ample cutlery, crockery and glasses, plenty of outdoor seating, a large outdoor table and a barbecue. For the able bodied, it is an easy walk or cycle into town.
Negative: I found the agents, Hoomy amateurish and officious. I was never provided with a summary of charges and deposit paid and told that a 25% deposit had been taken (amount not specified – check card statement to discover 25% of what) – strangely, the concierge (Hoomy employee I think) was provided with a breakdown of linen / towel rental and cleaning but not told whether I had already paid or not! Hoomy do not use Bookin.com or themselves to take the balancing payment and damage deposit but instead employ Tyllt. This required me to create a Tyllt account, including proof of identity (passport details). The only plus point was that Tyllt do not actually take the damage deposit but put a hold on funds – thus avoiding double currency exchange charges and / or being left with a wad of notes at the end. Concierge was supposed to email before our stay to arrange access but eventually I had to obtain a telephone number and contact her myself. Possibly because the concierge was not aware that we had paid for cleaning, she had completed a “before” approx. 60 item cleaning check list for me to agree and sign – pointless as we were not doing the final cleaning! Final problem was that I think the concierge forgot we had arranged to book out at 10.00 and had to be chased. Unfortunately, during our early September stay, the outside temperature did not go above 19’. This highlighted two problems with the property; • The lounge / dining area is extensive, has open stairs and three French doors. The area has two electric radiators, which, from the paperwork, is a total of 3kw. With both radiators on, the temperature in the area never went above 20’. The house is obviously not designed for winter (or autumn?) use. • Lounge seating consists of what looks like a sofa bed with a very deep seat and not very comfortable and two faded Ikea type chairs with seat padding virtually non- existent. For a house which can accommodate 8 this is insufficient.
Summary: Great place to stay if it is warm but agents are a pain.
