Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: One of the most special places I've ever been! The sea on one side and the volcano on the other. The location was glorious, spectacular, peaceful. The gate opens out onto a public beach with black volcanic rocks. We went at the end of the season in October when not many people were around, but were still able to get a bit of sun and a chilly dip. The sound of the sea at night and the distant sounds of the volcano erupting were indescribably beautiful. The outdoor spaces had both sheltered areas and sunny spots. The kitchen was well-equipped. It is a long walk to the grocery stores and most of the restaurants, which was totally fine for us but some might have trouble carrying what they need. Our time here was memorable for life!

Negative: The internet was barely functional!! The cellular service was also spotty, which made it very difficult to do basic logistics like look at hiking maps, ferry schedules, and calling the key holder to coordinate a ride to our departure ferry. It took 30 min to write the host on booking.com to ask if anything could be done to improve the connection, and they never wrote back. The host sent an A4 sized tips and house info doc by SMS the day before we arrived rather than further in advance through the booking platform, which made everything impossible to read and difficult to plan for while in transit on airplanes and ferries with no cell service. We were the last of the season and clearly some maintenance was needed inside, such as musty, peeling plaster walls and malfunctioning light switches that flickered in and out.
